Holiday Place Settings

I just found out that Shelli Gardener, Co-Founder & CEO of Stampin' Up! was on a television show demonstrating how to make some very cute place settings for the upcoming holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, & New Year's). I thought you might want to see it. The link to the video is below:

I'm planning on watching the video here in the next few minutes. I've heard there are other projects shown other than the ones pictured, so make sure you watch the whole video. The Thanksgiving place setting is pictured above. Shelli always comes up with great projects, so I can't wait to see it! I just may have to make place settings this year!

The Cute Owl is Back!

Remember my cute owl card? After making the card, I thought I should try using him on a scrapbook layout. Guess what? I've done it! I've made a 12" x 12" two-page layout using my favorite owl.

I really like how it turned out. I made it last night, minus the owl peaking over the picture on the right page. I originally just had a line of trees stamped there. I knew it needed something, but I didn't have room for another owl...or so I thought.

This morning, my creative, 15-year old daughter, Stephanie looked at it. She said, "Mom, I really think you should put the owl's head above the picture, so it looks like he's peeking over the top of it." Where was she last night when I made it! Oh yeah, in bed. So, of course, I had to drop everything I was doing this morning to add the owl's head! Isn't she creative? That was definitely what it needed!

Winter Post

Now for some more gorgeous swap cards. These cards were made using another set on my wish list, Winter Post. This set is also in the Holiday Mini on pp. 10 & 11. This set is from the Shelli's Signature Collection. Shelli is the co-founder and CEO of Stampin' Up! She loves elegant, vintage-style products. The lady who made the one on the left is Jeannine Tarrio, and the one on the right was made by Andrea Hurlbert.

The card with the skaters also used a very popular set, Lovely As A Tree. She used the masking technique to make it look like the skaters are in front of the trees. Pretty neat, huh? If you would like to see the Lovely As A Tree set, it is on p. 106 in the Fall-Winter Idea Book & Catalog.

A Christmas Cardinal

Here are some more Holiday Mini card ideas made by other demonstrators. These two cards were made with the beautiful A Christmas Cardinal set on p. 19 in the Holiday Mini. I don't own this set, but would love to! It's on the top of my wish list. It's so beautiful and elegant! The card on the left was made by a demonstrator friend, Susan Smith. The one on the right was made by someone in the "Mail" swap group I was in, Cindy Lieberman. I hope you like them. I sure do!

Holiday Mini Samples

For the next couple of days, I'll be posting some cards that I have received from other demonstrators in swaps I've been in. I was in a Holiday Mini swap recently, and I want to share some great card ideas that I received.

For those of you that don't know what a swap is, I'll explain. This particular swap centered on Holiday Mini stamp sets and papers only. Everyone in the group picked out either a stamp set or the paper they wanted to feature on their card. Only one person per stamp set/paper in each group. Then, we each made one card using the item we chose. Then we counted how many were in the group and made that many of the card we created. When I finished mine, I sent them to the swap hostess, and she gave everyone in the group one of my cards. When she swapped out every one's cards, she sent them back to us. It's a great way to get samples for stamp sets that I don't own.

I also have a local swap group that I've been swapping with for a few years now, and it's pretty much the same thing, but we usually try to get together by going out to eat. These ladies are very talented! I've received many ideas from them. We've become very good friends, and I would have never met them if I hadn't become a demonstrator.

Above are two stamp sets that are in the Holiday Mini. I own both of these stamp sets, and have posted a couple of my creations using them before. These two cards were from the Holiday Mini Swap that I did through the mail. The left card uses Happy Blessings (p. 8 in the Mini), and was made by Holly Krautkremer. The one on the right uses Season of Friendship (p. 6 in the Mini), and was made by Kate Holland. I love both of these sets, and have already had a lot of fun with both of them. The Season of Friendship isn't just a fall set. It can be used all year around. Instead of the leaves, you can use snowflakes or flowers. There's even a bird that you can put in the tree! I've also made a scrapbook layout using this set, and you can find it HERE. There are also other scrapbook pages and projects that I made before starting my blog as well, if you haven't seen them before.

Isn't He Cute?

I love this owl! When I received my Big Shot starter kit, I liked the Top Note Bigz die that came in the kit, but I didn't think I'd use it that much. Boy, was I wrong! There is so much that you can do with this die! I've learned some of the uses on the demonstrator only-side of the website and some from other demonstrators. I wish I could take credit for coming up with the idea of turning it into an owl, but I can't. I saw another card using this owl on Splitcoaststampers, and I just had to make one for myself. It was really fun to make! I'm so glad that I purchased this die! I've already got my money's worth out of it! I think he'd look really cute on a scrapbook page, too. I feel another project coming on!

It's very easy to make. After running the cardstock through the Big Shot, I cut the Top Note piece in half. I then flipped both ends over so the top and the bottom of the Top Note were in the middle. Before putting them together, I cut out an oval from the Autumn Vine Designer Paper with the Oval Coluzzle. I sponged Chocolate Chip ink around the edges of the oval, and attached it to the bottom part of the owl. Then, I attached the top of the owl to the bottom, overlapping just a little bit. To make the eyes, I punched the Really Rust circles with the 1-3/8" Circle Punch, the Whisper White circles with the 1" Circle Punch, and the Basic Black circles with the 1/2" Circle Punch. I attach the circles together to make the eyes, and then attached to the owl. I made the beak and the owl feet with the 5-Petal Flower Punch. The feet are made with 2 petals each, and then the remaining petal is cut off for the beak. Attach them and...Voila, you've got an owl. I sponged the edges of the sage-color Autumn Vine designer paper, and attached to my More Mustard card. I then attached the little rust Autumn Vine paper strip across the bottom of the sage paper, attached a pewter jumbo eyelet to each end, and stamped the saying from the Season of Friendship set (from the Holiday Mini) with Chocolate Chip ink. Then I attached the owl to the card. That's it!

Christmas Simply Scrappin' Kit Class

I finally was able to make the cards being offered at my Christmas Simply Scrappin' Kit Class on Friday, November 7, 2008 @ 6:00 p.m. In a previous post, I have a picture of the outside of the mini scrapbook you can make, too.Below, you'll see 10 of the 20 cards you can make. I'll post the pictures of the last 10 cards tomorrow.

This class is a little different from the ones I've done in the past. You have a choice of what you want to make. The choices are:

Mini Scrapbook only -- $30

20 Cards (with envelopes) only -- $30

Both the Scrapbook and the 20 cards -- $55

2 Mini Scrapbooks -- $55

2 sets of cards (40 total cards) -- $55

The cards go very quick, so you'll have plenty of time to work on both projects if you decide to do the scrapbook, too. If you decide to do 2 Mini Scrapbooks, you'll have time to make both of the books, and possibly enough time to decorate all of the pages as well. If not, you'll have pictures of each page layout, so you can finish them at home. All supplies needed are included with the class. Everything will be cut out for you - cardstock, paper, ribbon, etc. Complete instructions and any extras from the Simply Scrappin' Kit & Ribbon are yours to keep as well.

Deadline to sign-up for this class is Monday, October 27, 2008

If you can't attend on November 7, you can order the complete kit to make them yourself. The price is the same as the class. Everything will be cut out along with the complete instructions. Snail Adhesive, Tombow Multipurpose glue, and Sticky Strip won't be included, so if you need to order some, let me know. Stamp Class Change

I've made a little change to my events calendar. Originally, I had one of my Scrap In A Flash! camps scheduled for Friday, November 7. There is still an event that night, but a different kind. I really think you'll love it!

A demonstrator friend of mine had made a wonderful mini scrapbook that I got to see last month. I fell in love with it! Then, that same night, we went to a training event, and one of our uplines, Tami Waddell, had made the same mini scrapbook and also added 20 cards...all made from one Simply Scrappin' Kit! She is making it with her ladies in California. I decided right then and there that we were going to do the same thing here!

Both projects use the I Wish Simply Scrappin' Kit, Real Red 5/8" Grosgrain Ribbon, & Chocolate Chip Taffeta Ribbon (each project uses 1/2 of each item). The scrapbook also uses 1/2 a pack of the On Board Small Book Basics. The cards include 20 Whisper White Small Open-End Envelopes. Anything left over you get to keep.

You will have the choice of making the mini scrapbook, the 20 cards, or both the scrapbook & cards. That means card-makers & scrapbookers alike will love this class!

The fee for each project is $30. If you would like to make both projects, you only pay $55! This class is starting @ 6:00 p.m. (30 minutes earlier than usual) so those that do both can get them done by 9 p.m. The class is on Friday, November 7.

To ensure that I have enough supplies for this class, you must sign-up early. The deadline to sign-up is Monday, October 27, 2008.

I just started working on the mini scrapbook, but haven't started on the cards, yet. Below, you'll find a picture of the front of the mini scrapbook. I hope you like it!
